Roadway / Dave 'Bucket' Colwell formerly of Bad Company & Friends
"The Fret-King DBC is a truly excellent guitar....a meat and potatoes rock guitar, built right, sounds right, feels right, looks right and rocks right. It has the bite and attack I need for playing with either ROADWAY or for the Bad Company material when I’m playing with Dave Colwell, and despite having just 1 pick-up has a lot of diversity and feel. I tried the DBC guitar for the first time while on the road with Dave and fell in love with it instantly, a lightweight guitar with a loud voice!!"
Scottish guitarist Ross McEwen is an intuitive musician whose instincts and passions are balanced by his versatility and technical dexterity. Born in the Highlands of Scotland in 1988 and raised on a diet of Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Clapton and Bad Company, Ross has been working full steam ahead to achieve a prosperous and notable career in the industry both as a performer and as an academic.
In 2009 at the age of 20 Ross had the honour of recording with former Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow / Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Doogie White, the resulting track ‘This Is Why’ would later be released as part of the debut EP for the band ROADWAY.
Ross would go on to work with Doogie again the following year on stage as lead guitarist for a line up of his solo band, performing tracks from Deep Purple, Rainbow, Cornerstone and Midnight Blue, as well as a special filmed unplugged session featuring a version of the Rainbow classic ‘Temple of the King’ as a tribute to the late great Ronnie James Dio.
“Doogie is simply one of the most capable vocalists on the planet. Hugely underrated in my humble opinion, I really enjoyed my work with him and am extremely proud of the track we recorded together. The experience really helped me raise my game and was massively rewarding, a good friend and a great singer”.
In 2010 Ross‘s own band ROADWAY released their debut EP, and featured guest performances from Doogie White and John Sinclair (Ozzy Osbourne/Uriah Heep). Since its release, the 5 track EP has gone on to sell physical copies to 23 countries and digitally to many more, gaining frequent radio play in the US, Far East, and Europe. ROADWAY tour regularly and boast a blend of heavy rock inspired by the giants of the 70s and 80s but also a firm nod to more recent acts such as Black Stone Cherry, Down and Burn Halo.
“The band has a heavy, sleazy and firm sound, you know what you’re getting with ROADWAY....take no prisoners, balls to the wall hard rock!! It’s a wicked band and I’m delighted with what we’ve done so far and very much looking forward to what comes next!!.”
In 2013 Ross began playing in the first live solo venture for ex-Bad Company guitarist Dave ‘Bucket‘ Colwell. Their first shows, that took the form of an 11 date tour of Scotland saw the band perform a set of Bad Co, Free, as well as tracks from Colwell’s 2010 solo album release ‘Guitars, Beers & Tears’. Ross performs nationally and internationally with this act.
‘Dave is a wicked guitarist and just the nicest bloke on the planet, my adopted big brother!! Playing with him is always a blast wherever we are in the world, the catalogue of songs he’s associated with is just amazing so it’s always a fun show for the audience and the band.”
After gaining an HNC, HND and BA (Hons) Degree In Commercial Music, at the age of 21 in 2010, Ross began working as an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland, teaching classes in music business, recording / management contracts, negotiation skills and event/tour management and working with the likes of Shirley Manson (Garbage) and the late Jon Lord (Deep Purple) on special and unique guest lectures. He has visited several institutions in a guest lecturer capacity in Germany and the United States including the Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts, the Center of Contemporary Music in Nashville Tennessee and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood California.
‘I’m delighted to be welcomed into the Fret-King and JHS family and looking forward to an awful lot of rocking with them in the future!”...
